Kibera Tour. On 22 nd January, 2023 .

Jamii Bora Trust ,through its subsidiary Yawezekana Sacco we gives loans to our members to start and expand small businesses that empower them , the neglected poorest of the poor giving them hope, we at Jamii Bora Trust give counseling and encouragement that its possible to come out poverty. Eventual results gives even the most desperate a new dignity and self esteem.
Yawezekana Sacco help our members to Strengthen their own capacity,while helping them realize and understand their own potential to uplift themselves get out of poverty and misery. Our main Partners in this program Micro Financing Partners in Africa, paid us a courtesy call, and our best offices, where the real impact is felt is on the field where the intended recipients operate from, we at Jamii Bora Trust are used to the alley ways of Nairobi shanties where majority of our members reside and trade. www.microfinancingafrica.org

Our 1st stop.
Katwikira section within the expansive Kibara Slum. Here we meet our Yawezekana Sacco member and Corona loan beneficiary .
Jane Onyango Kida, Married and blessed with five children and one grand child , she earns her daily keep by selling vegetables (green grocery kiosk). Her husband lost his job during the corona period, and their house was demolished to pave way for road expansion, double tragedy throwing their family into more misery ,she joined Yawezekana Sacco in 2002,and become beneficiary of Interest free Corona of Ksh.1000 loan (8.00 US Dollars) which she used to start her vegetable selling business.
Today she manages to pay rent and fend for her family with proceedings from her kiosk while still being able to save Ksh.1500.In the near future she is planing to get a loan of KSH.3000 (24.00 USD) expand her business, by cooking take away ready meal of Githeri (maize and bean mixture).
Jane Onyango Kida has a well laid out vision of how to get out of poverty with aid of Yawezekana Sacco, our partners and visitors were very much impressed and encouraged her , that it is possible.

Our 2nd Visit.
Mary Onyango Ominde born in 1952, the 71 years old is a single mother of 8 children and 16 grand children. She had a thriving business selling charcoal ,a vegetable kiosk and a roof over her head but all that now is history , all demolished when for road construction , and only left with a small portion of what used to be her home for many years.
Mary Ominde did not despair, she started washing clothes in the up scale neighborhoods of Langata to earn her daily bread,but it was not enough and contented ,her heart was still business to attain self sufficiency,
Yawezekana Sacco came through for her and gave her Interest free Corona of Ksh.1000 loan (8.00 US Dollars)which she used to start her vegetable selling business, which now fully paid ,she intends to borrow again a loan of KSH.3000 (24.00USD) to increase her stock and relocate to a better house.

Our 3rd visit .
Pastor Aloise Were Onyango is 66 years old blessed with 12 children all form one mother. His church was also demolished for road construction, he was left with only a fraction of what used to be his compound ,where he hosts baptist rescue center for better kids,which provides shelter for orphans and 2007 post elections orphaned girls who are now adults with their own children and still reside at his rescue center and day care to the orphans present.
Pastor Aloise has got a heavy load of taking care of his Anemic brother who cant fend for himself to add to his own 12 children. One of his child is a beneficiary of Yawezekana Sacco health program, who had a surgery at St. Marys Hospital, Nairobi.
Pastor Aloise is Now Saving to own a house of his own throgh Yawezekana Housing Co-operative Society and Move out of Kibera Slums.

Our 4th visit Toi Market Area Part of Kibera.
Teresia Wanjiru Ndumia 35 years old , salonist and a single mother of two children,who has been a very active member of Yawezekana Sacco servicing a loan of KSH.5000.00/- (40.00/- USD) of which she is nearly finishing repayment.

Our 5th visit Toi Market Area
Decimula Bumula. She is a fruit seller married with four children , a very active member of Yawezekana Sacco servicing a loan of KSH.10,00.00/- (80.00/- USD) of which she is halfway finishing repayment, and also saving in Yawezekana Housing Co-operative Society towards having a house of her own.
We concluded our tour very much satisfied that programs at Yawezekana are having an impact to the forgotten poor of the poorest members of society whom would not qualify for any form of financial loan at the normal Sacco's or Banks , at Yawezekana we are uniquely different just like our members. Its possible.
