New Kaputei Housing Project

NEW Kaputei town is a housing project under the banner of the Yawezekana housing cooperative. This project entered its second phase in October 2022. The first phase began in 2001 – 2010, where around 800 affordable housing units were constructed; the funds were received from Sacco members and donations from other well-wishers.
The houses in the New town Kaputei are mainly under a tenancy to purchase program that is run through the housing cooperative. The second phase that is currently underway is intended to see 1,200 new affordable housing units build within three years.
The Sacco project has managed to subsidize the cost of building the houses using various ways but one that is important to note is the production of some of their building materials. The factory on site at the new Kaputei town manufactures its own bricks and roofing tiles for all the houses that they intend to build.
New Kaputei is not only an affordable housing project but a village of sorts with a wide array of amenities which include:
• Shopping center / commercial shops
• 2 boreholes with water tanks and piping infrastructure
• Electricity and street lights
• Schools (primary and secondary)
• Private hospitals and dispensaries
• Playgrounds
• Churches and Mosque
• Sports Academy
• Rescue centers
• Administration office
• Water management plan

Number of houses built update .864 low coast housing.
1200 houses to be built in phase 2 which started on December 2022.
